Sumac Story

How it all began:

In 2003, our founder was on the board of a performing arts company. He and another board member, an experienced fundraiser, were having a wide-ranging discussion about the problems facing non-profit organizations, particularly software. They realized that while it had the potential to deliver huge benefits, in practice most software instead caused a great deal of frustration:

• It didn’t do what was needed.
• So far from being user-friendly, it was often user-hostile.
• It cost too much.

Further discussion led to action, and Sumac was born! The development of Sumac started in January 2004, and three customers were using it 10 months later.

Sumac is different. It is exceptional at doing exactly what you need it to,

• It is incredibly user-friendly.
• It is extraordinarily cost-effective.

Today thousands of people use and love Sumac. They are amazed at what it has done for their organizations. We are proud to help them deliver their mission!

Here are just a few of the things we do to show our commitment to our customers:

Cost – We are dedicated to lowering the cost of software for non-profit organizations. We provide Sumac to small non-profits for free. Because Sumac costs a fraction of what similar software costs, non-profit organizations that upgrade to Sumac from other systems dramatically lower their costs.

Data Transfer – It doesn’t matter if your data is scattered across several spreadsheets and databases. We will clean up your data, organize it in a way that makes sense for your organization, and transfer it into Sumac for you!

Support – We provide outstanding support to all Sumac users. We always answer your calls or e-mails promptly and gladly help you though your troubles. If there is some way to make sure the problem never happens again, we work on that too.

Library – It is difficult to find good advice, especially with limited time and resources, so we created Sumac Research to help you. Our library contains useful articles that give a quick reference point to obtain information, advice, and guidance about issues that are important to non-profits.
