In 2003, our founder was on the board of a performing arts company. He and another board member, an experienced fundraiser, were having a wide-ranging discussion about the problems facing non-profit organizations, particularly software. They realized that while it had the potential to deliver huge benefits, in practice most software instead caused a great deal of frustration:

Support – We provide outstanding support to all Sumac users. We always answer your calls or e-mails promptly and gladly help you though your troubles. If there is some way to make sure the problem never happens again, we work on that too.
Library – It is difficult to find good advice, especially with limited time and resources, so we created Sumac Research to help you. Our library contains useful articles that give a quick reference point to obtain information, advice, and guidance about issues that are important to non-profits.
