What is Sumac Online?

Sumac Online is a service that allows you to access your database anywhere there is an Internet connection. Instead of your database residing on your server, it resides “in the cloud” on a server managed by the Sumac Team. The service costs $20/month or $240/year.

How does Sumac Online compare to Sumac In-house?

Sumac Online is probably a good idea if:

Your staff works in multiple locations. In this case, an online database will simplify their lives. No matter where they are, the database is available.
You lie awake at night worrying about whether your database server is reliable and being backed up on a regular basis. In this case, an online database is a good idea. Your data will be stored and backed up online using the highest level of security, so it relieves you of the burden of managing your own server and you get to sleep better.

Will My Data be Backed Up?

Yes. Your data will be held on a server in Vancouver. That server is backed up locally (i.e. in Vancouver) every day. You data is also copied from Vancouver and backed up to a server in Toronto. The Toronto server, in turn, is backed up locally (i.e. in Toronto) every day, and off-site twice per week.

Can I Get My Data Out?

Every list window in Sumac has an export button. These buttons enable you to export anything anytime. In addition, on request, we can provide a copy of the backed up database in a standard .sql file format.

Who Owns The Data?

All your data belongs to you.
